杰尔巴岛老年大学在与图卢兹老年大学的合作下创立，并得到了弗朗索瓦·维拉斯教授的大力支持。其创立的初衷是为满足当地退休群体的需求，并且为他们的闲暇时间提供娱乐活动。杰尔巴岛老年大学目标是吸引外国老年人们发现杰尔巴岛的美景以及可以体验的活动。由于突尼斯有着形形色色的景观,如荒漠和撒哈拉、山脉和森林，海岸和海滩以及历史古迹等，随后游客可以发现整个国家的魅力。
所有的现场活动也是同样重要的，如陶器、篓编、钓鱼、葡萄酒大道、橄榄油、突尼斯水果等……
突出这个国家的主要景点和历史也是至关重要的：
- 在最北端，吉兰角同样也是非洲大陆的最北端。
- 在突尼斯之前，这片土地曾被称为“Ifriqiya”或“Africa”，而后者正是非洲大陆如今的名称。
- 迦太基市于公元前9世纪由腓尼基人建造。
- 突尼斯是拥有3000多年文明的国家（腓尼基人、拜占庭人、阿格拉比德人、哈夫斯人、奥斯曼帝国以及法国的保护国）。
Seniors have time, money and overall willing to experience new and local activities and attractions.
In Partnership with U3A Toulouse and with the great support of Professor François Vellas, U3A Djerba has been firstly created for the need of local retired population, to entertain them during their free time. Then, U3A Djerba is aiming to attract foreign elders to let them discovering the landscape of Djerba island and all activities that could be experienced. After that, the entire country will be discovered by our visitors since Tunisia has various and different landscape to show : Desert and Sahara, Mountains and Forests, Coasts and beaches as well as historical monuments.
It is also important to notice all on site activities provided such as pottery, basketry, fishing, wine road, olive oil, Tunisian fruits…
It is crucial to highlight the key attractions and history of the country :
- Its northernmost point, Cape Angela, is the northernmost point on the African continent.
- Before Tunisia, the territory's name was Ifriqiya or Africa, which gave the present day name of the continent Africa.
- The city of Carthage was founded in the 9th century BC by Phoenicians.
- Tunisia is a country with more than 3000 years of civilization (Phoenicians, Byzantine, Aghlabid, Hafsid, Ottoman Empire and French Protectorate).

Tunisian Senior Tourists have some specific requirements which are as follows :
- They do not prefer, too early neither full day visits.
- They wish to have some break during the visits, to take a coffee or tea or fresh beverages. Be advised that major Tunisians prefer to drink cool water upon weather is warming.
- Some Tunisians will likelty to ask for halal meals.
- They prefer not to be for long time on the roads since Tunisia is quiet small country and people are not used to drive for many hours.
- Tunisians prefer American Breakfast, coffee and milk are a must. French viennoiserie are welcomed also.
- For lunch and dinner, Tunisian are not (really) willing to experience Asian Food. However, spicy and Italian (pizza and pasta) are very welcomed.
- Tunisians Seniors look carefully to their health.
- Tunisians as other tourists will not go to unsafe places or destinations. However, they are not so stricted on that.
- Tunisians would primarily look for a visa-free destination, this is why Turkey is a very famous country to visit.
- Tunisians would travel on plane and since some Gulf careers operate in Tunisia, long-haul travels to Asia became more accessible and affordable.
- Generally speaking, Tunisians are not 5* or luxury accomodation guests. They would prefer 3*+ or 4* property. They do not prefer to spend their allocation in accomodation, they would rather spend it in shopping.
- As Tunisia is very close to main European gateway cities, there are many possibilities of stop over by main aiports. In addition, at the East side of the globe, Gulf and turkish carriers offer some other opportunities.
- Tunisians do not have specific requirements on clothes.
